The project will implement streetscaping works for the townships of Quorn and Hawker, in the Flinders Ranges These townships and their communities, depend heavily on attraction of tourists to the area, as tourism is the region’s principal economic driver, accounting for the largest share of its industry output, jobs and exports.

The project will create direct employment during the construction phase, by recruiting workers and engaging contractors locally. Materials will be sourced locally, supporting local businesses wherever possible.

On completion, as well as offering the local community opportunities to enjoy outdoor recreation in quality, safe and accessible open spaces, the improved amenity and functionality of the towns’ public areas and roadways will enhance the tourism experience offered, encouraging greater visitor numbers, and promoting overnight and longer stays, increasing local spending and stimulating the region's economy into the future.

Key highlights include:

  • creation of an Arts Precinct
  • development of township ‘entry statements’
  • development of key intersections to enhance safe pedestrian access
  • major footpath upgrades.
